About Hunting with Stu
Welcome to my official website, all things Hunting With Stu. I know you guys like to watch my videos so I wanted to give you some background on them and how I got to where we are now.
I was born in 1962 and ever since I was a kid I had an interest in hunting. My dad had a hunting set up called High Country Safaris, mainly for Americans on R&R from Vietnam. I remember whenever I asked my mum where dad was, she would always say he was off hunting.
From around the mid 1970's I used to look forward to annual hunting trips out West on long weekends, until I joined the army. This wonderful period lasted about 5 years. Some of the best and most freeing memories I have are from when I was learning to hunt. Then I joined the Army (1980) and every posting was a hunting opportunity. Postings included: Townsville, Singleton, Canberra, Orange, Albury/ Wodonga, Wagga Wagga, Sydney and Darwin. I knew what I was going to do with the rest of my life…shoot.
Now I really enjoy hunting with mates and doing it for a good purpose in culling invasive pigs in rural Australia.
One of the great trips of my life was to Africa in 1985 with Dad and another mate where we hunted Cape Buff, Greater Kudu, Impala. Also, two trips to New Zealand (1989 and 1998) hunting Red Deer, Alpine Chamois and Himalayan Thar. These great animals were all fantastic to see and hunt in the flesh. Though despite hunting in all of these amazing places, it was the feral pigs back home in Australia that were my favourite. As it always took you into the outback and to this day it feels like I am at one with that place. Every hunt out in rural Aus is exciting and memorable, as you guys know from my videos, never a dull moment.
Around 2010 I started taking video clips of myself and my mates hunting trips but never really thought of doing anything with the footage, I enjoyed looking back over the videos I took on hunting trips when I was back home. Seeing what I could have done or what I should have avoided. I have a lot of retro hunting footage from a camera that I had by my side in the 1980's. I’d love to show you all some vintage Hunting with Stu one day.
And so when I discharged from the army in 2015 I got serious about starting a YouTube channel. Things have evolved over the years on editing and length and content of my clips but not much has changed all in all. I still do it for the same reasons, it's where I feel I am meant to be and it's the most fun I can find.
I hope you all enjoyed this little trip down memory lane. I hope to create many more memories with the great bunch behind Hunting with Stu. Thank you all for the ongoing support.
Cheers,
Stu
